“What the hell, babe? Why didn’t you tell me my birthday was yesterday?” cried Ryan Martin, 38, to his long-time live-in girlfriend, Jenn.
Since getting off Facebook last May, Ryan does not get his annual slew of messages wishing him a happy birthday. Instead, he forgot it was his birthday, and he now blames Jenn for not reminding him of the actual day.
Last year, Jenn threw Ryan a surprise party and bought him and his friends a bottle of whiskey. Ryan thanked her by peeing on the couch that night. This year, she decided to get him a nice card and take him to dinner. Because of her work schedule, she was saving that dinner for the weekend. But now, there is tension in the home.
“I didn’t realize he needed reminding. He has a calendar. I guess he just either didn’t look at the date or it didn’t register that it was his birthday? I don’t know. I told him today I was grateful he was born, but I guess I should have been more specific,” says Jenn.
This isn’t the first time that Jenn has needed to remind Ryan of things going on in his life. She’s made him haircut and dentist appointments many times over the last few years. She even used to pack his lunch for him.
“I just need a partner,” says Ryan.
