Local Woman Takes Advantage of Climate Change with Hot “Patiyoga”

I recently went and experienced the hottest, and I do mean HOTTEST trend in fitness right now, Hot Patiyoga! I took a class and caught up with the creator through her patio door to learn more.

Kara Delibeans was still weighing the pros and cons of buying a window unit when the heat wave hit Los Angeles. Sticky and stuck inside a one bedroom apartment in the midst of a global pandemic, it seemed all she could do was lay on the floor with her limbs spread apart like a starfish under her ceiling fan. Kara thought back to when she first moved to the Valley in November and her friend from Wisconsin had warned her that it got hot there.

“I’m from Texas. I can handle the heat,” she’d scoffed. Now she burned for the sin of her pride that day.

Her phone buzzed with a fresh message, this one from her friend who runs a campground in Death Valley, “Y’all okay? Saw it was hot out there.”

She stared a moment before typing, “I’m from Texas, I know how to handle the heat lol.”

Kara stared at her fan and tried to remember if she’d ever been this hot before in her life. The closest she’d ever gotten to truly experiencing the trials of a roast tofurkey was when her friend Daniel had dragged her to hot yoga. She could never comprehend why anyone would ever want to pay to have another person make them miserable AND sweaty.

That was the thought that made her decide to take advantage of the downward dog days of summer and launch the smash hit pop up “Hot Patiyoga.”

Patioyoga starts with you climbing a rope ladder to the patio of Kara’s second story, overpriced, one bedroom apartment. The patio has a chair with an iPad propped up on it with a well-curated list of Youtube’s freest yoga videos. The patio door is closed to maintain social distancing, but to give you the full yoga studio experience, Kara comes by occasionally to peer at you through a window with a smile on her face but judgement in her eyes as she sips a cold pressed juice.

And you can rest assured that your yoga will indeed be hot, as Kara leaves a tray full of organic eggplant to bake next to you in the open air and sun, so you can really see the desert heat at work.

It was so much fun! Or at least as much fun as the actual gym ever was, so Venmo @Kara-Bear to start your Hot Patiyoga journey today!
