How to Un-Sad Socially Distanced Halloween

This year (2020, IN CASE YOU SOMEHOW FORGOT) just looks a little… different (PANDEMICS, ELECTIONS, A CASE OF MASKNE THAT JUST! WON’T! QUIT!). Halloween is “banned” in most major cities, but do not fear. Here are my best tips for making the day still positively spooktacular (you can take a lot 2020, but NOT OUR PUNS).

1. Trick (or Treat) At Your House:

We’re all spending plenty of time there anyway, right? Get crafty and decorate! Make little ghosts out of old t-shirts, stuff the “head” with cotton balls, tie it off with a ribbon and draw or googly-on some eyes. Done! Or it’s amazing what you can make with a broom and some oversized flannels (ahem, scarecrow). A friend Instacarted pumpkins today. Seriously. Go forth and Martha Stewart this shiz. (Dress like Martha for those bonus Halloween points!)

2. Zoom Costume Themed Mafia

If you’ve never played the epic party game Mafia- you’re missing out. You get assigned different roles, mostly townspeople, but someone’s a murderer and someone’s a judge and… a quick google search will reveal all the rules (it’s easy, trust me). During quarantine, we’ve played on a group Zoom in various themes, including High School Reunion, Fabulous 80s and Real Live Celebrities (props to my cousin’s flawless Timothee Chalamet).

3. Spooky Dinner

My mom does this every year. She makes a meatloaf shaped witch, mummies (pigs in the blanket), a cheese ball spider and freezes plastic spiders in ice cubes, to name a few. Gather your pod and make a delicious (terrifying) dinner to share.

4. Celebrate the Full Moon

Halloween Night is a Full Moon. You can’t make this up, BOOS! Howl at the moon, set some intentions, light a candle to, oh I don’t know, make sure democracy prevails on November 3rd…. and just get witchy with it! The (very large) moon is your oyster.

When all else fails, remember a new year is right around the corner. Halloween to January 1st, 2021 (oh my god, YES) is only 62
days away. Socially-distanced midnight masked kisses, anyone?! Mwahhahahahah!
