I was born a Bitcoin miner’s daughter
In a suburb of a city near the water.
We were poor, but we had fast WiFi.
That’s the one thing my daddy would die by
I watched him set up rigs to mine a poor man’s dollar.
Our daddy taught three kids how to build computers
While other kids at school had Macs and tablets.
Those kids had to wait in line
At the Apple store to pass the time.
While I reassembled a motherboard with my hands tied
My daddy mined all night in our house’s basement,
Then all day long at a Help Desk in IT.
My Mommy didn’t see the point
Of wasting energy on digital coins
To validate transactions of cryptocurrency.
One night we did a toast with sparkling grape juice.
And daddy had big news to tell us all.
We’d been mining for two whole years
Chasing after his crazy ideas.
And now one Bitcoin was finally equal to one whole dollar.
That winter was the coldest there’s ever been
And the furnace gave out around one o’clock am.
We ran down to our basement mine
And gathered ’round the rigs like a fire
We stayed safe and warm till help came in the morning.
Yeah, I’m proud to be a Bitcoin miner’s daughter
Now that each coin is worth 50 thousand dollars.
I wish my Daddy could be here now
To see his daughter honoring the vow
To keep his hard drives safe and dry from leaks and robbers.
Well, Bitcoin’s gone up a lot since way back then.
And the shares we mined are now worth millions.
There’s not a lot left to do now
But keep on milking this money cow.
My rigs run day and night now mining Dogecoin.
Now it’s me who holds the wallet and the key.
And I’m not trading it for any NFT’s
I’ve got a lot of people to thank
Up and down the bitcoin blockchain.
We laugh all the way to the bank now as a family.
Happy 50th Anniversary to “Coal Miner’s Daughter” by Loretta Lynn.
